A space to make things happen

Your local date

Hand work to AI agents. Stay in charge.

The clock shows your local time.

Alstead is one calm desk for your work and the AI agents that help with it. Give each agent a job, see what it did, and get asked before it goes further than you allowed. What your agents remember about you stays yours to read, change or take back.

  1. Agents

Hire an agent. Say exactly what it may touch.

Every agent has a name, a job and a key of its own. It can only use the tools you tick. You can pause it, rotate its key or retire it at any time, and a retired agent stays retired.

    What happens when you hire

    • The agent gets its own access key. Alstead shows it to you once, then stores only a hash and a short prefix.
    • Tools you don't tick are refused. The agent can still ask, and the request comes to you in Needs you.
    • Pausing an agent blocks its key immediately. Rotating the key disables the old one. Retiring an agent permanently disables its key, and approving a later request can't bring it back.

    What Quill may touch

Anything you don't tick is denied. Quill can still ask, and you decide in Needs you. Greyed-out permissions aren't available in this alpha, the same as on a tester's real hire form.

  2. Needs you

When an agent reaches past its permissions, it waits for you.

The call is refused and a request lands in Needs you with the exact action, the resource, and the permission it was missing. Allow adds that one missing permission to the agent’s key, or deny it. Payments, publishing and card use can't be approved at all in this release.

Quill's job: “Save that the vendor call moved to Friday.” Quill wasn't given memory.

Turn on JavaScript to try this. The request below is what you'd see.

Quill tried to save a note and was refused: no memory access.

    Needs you

Anything an agent isn't allowed to do waits here for you.

Payments and publishing always need your approval, and in this release they can't be approved at all.

Allowing adds exactly one permission to Quill's key. Quill then tries again, and Alstead checks its permissions again.

  3. Memory

A memory you can read, edit, and take back.

Facts about you, your company, your voice, the people you work with and your documents. Agents that have memory access can use it. When you forget something, it disappears from search, from your agents and from your profile's version history, while the record that it was there stays.

    Forget doesn't mean erase history

    • You can add and edit memories and search them by text, section, tag or which agent wrote them.
    • Forget hides a memory from search and from your agents, and withholds its text everywhere else it was kept, including older versions of your profile. Show forgotten brings forgotten items back into view, and Restore puts one back.
    • Your profile sections keep a version history, so you can see how "About you" changed and who changed it. Restoring an older version never undoes a forget.

  4. Ledger

Every action an agent takes has a name on it.

Alstead writes each operation to a log that is only ever added to: who did it, what it was, and how it turned out. The database itself rejects any attempt to change or delete a row, including from Alstead's own code. It records details about the operation, never the content of messages, memories or keys. The rows below come from what you just did above.

Only new rows are ever added. Rows store permitted details only: the key prefix and a status code, never message bodies, memory text, keys or secrets.

  5. Models · Work

Your model key. Sealed. One bounded run, with a receipt.

Alstead doesn't sell model time. You register your own provider key: it's encrypted, shown only by its prefix, and never returned. You choose which agent uses it. Work runs with a budget that expires, and each run produces a receipt you can accept, revise or retry.

    What's true today

    • Work runs use your own API key, with OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, xAI or an OpenAI-compatible endpoint. A local model is refused. None of them has been verified against a live provider yet, OpenAI included.
    • A run has a total spend limit, an expiry, a maximum number of turns and a maximum output length. If the result is uncertain, the run is marked Outcome unknown and never repeated automatically.
    • Revoking your key wipes the stored copy. New runs stop until you connect a model again.
    • Your provider bills you directly. Work runs need an API key: consumer subscriptions such as ChatGPT or Claude plans can't be used for them.

Work runs are built and tested, but not yet verified with a live provider.

  6. Connections

What connects today, and what doesn't yet.

The status labels are the ones the product itself uses. A catalog entry doesn't mean an agent can already use that service, so where something is set up but not yet proven end to end, we say so beside it.

  7. Workshop · live in Alstead

Your coding workspace, beside your desk.

Workshop is the part of Alstead that opens the Alstead Workshop app running on your own computer. Save a computer's name and address to your account, then pair each browser or phone with it. Pairing codes stay on your device, and the work runs on your computer.

The Alstead Workshop app for Mac is going to a few testers first. It isn't publicly available yet.

Alstead Connect, for reaching your computer from anywhere, is built but not available yet. No alpha plan includes hosted sandboxes or cloud computers.

  8. Plans

Where Alstead stands.

Early days, clearly marked. Every line here is something we checked, with a date or a reason. The Alstead Log records each release as it went out, the faults we found in our own work included.

How we verify
“Verified” on this page means an independent audit checked it: the first in the deployed alpha on 27–28 September 2026, a second on 20 October 2026 against a release-candidate build (separation between workspaces across 73 endpoints, and what a tester can do end to end). “Built” means built and tested, but not yet checked live. The demos are simulations: they run in your browser and send nothing.

Signing in
You sign in with a code sent to your email. It works for invited addresses. If yours isn't invited yet, the sign-in page asks you to email us. Email us for an invite.
Works today
Your desk: scenery, scratchpad, focus timer, day and night. Hiring, pausing, rotating and retiring agents with explicit tool permissions and one-time keys. Blocked calls waiting in Needs you, with Deny. Memory you can add, edit, search, forget and restore, plus people and documents. Separation between workspaces, in the cases tested. Checked by independent audits on 27–28 September and 20 October 2026.
Workshop
Live in Alstead. Workshop opens the Alstead Workshop app running on your own computer, and the work runs there. The Mac app is going to a few testers first. It isn't publicly available yet.
Alstead Connect
Reaching your computer from anywhere through Alstead Connect is built but not available yet.
Needs your own key
Anything that uses a model. A Work run uses your own API key with OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, xAI or an OpenAI-compatible endpoint; a local model is refused. None of them has been verified against a live provider yet, OpenAI included. Your provider bills you directly.
Built, not yet live-verified
Bounded Work runs with a budget and a receipt. Allowing a blocked action from Needs you. Restoring an earlier profile version. Binding a model to an agent. Connection grants, outbound MCP servers, Telegram and email. Scheduled routines are built and run for the operator, but aren't open to testers yet.
Not in this alpha
Agents messaging on your behalf over SMS, iMessage, WhatsApp, Discord or Slack. Hired agents using a computer or browser for you. Agents that spend money or hold cards (refused by design). Publishing, scheduled autonomous work (built, not open in this alpha) and automatic memory capture. Hosted sandboxes and cloud computers.
Phone apps
No iOS or Android app is publicly available.
Plans
Free while in alpha. Nothing is on sale yet. Personal is planned at $25/month, with a founding rate of $9/month for your first 3 months, or 6 months with a founder token. The founding rate is for first subscriptions only. There is no live billing: nothing is charged and limits aren't enforced.
Devices
Checked in desktop Chrome and at phone and tablet screen sizes. Not yet tested on real phones or tablets, or as an installed app.
Security fixes
The four issues from the September audit are fixed in this release: a check on requests coming from other sites, validation of where sign-in sends you afterwards, browser security headers, and dependency advisories. On 22 October an independent code review found two gaps in agent-key controls (rotating a paused agent handed it a working key; a call already in flight could undo a Pause or Retire). Both were fixed and deployed the same day. The same review led to three more fixes: the database now rejects any change or deletion of a ledger row, calls from paused or retired keys and failed tool calls are recorded rather than passed over, and forgetting a memory now withholds its text from older profile versions too. We don't describe Alstead as hardened or certified.
